Responsibility
We believe that brands can be responsible members of society. As an independent family-owned rural business, our most important stakeholder is nature and all of our decisions – from product design to ingredients and packaging – are made with this in mind. For us, responsibility goes beyond the typical box ticking of sustainability, and instead considers how we can truly bring about positive change in the world.
Form Follows Function
You can read more about how this works in practice in our Intentional Design section, but essentially everything at Commune is done for a reason. We’re not minimalists and we revel in the visual bounty of nature, but we are essentialists in that we think that everything should have a role to play. Form follows function, and by carefully thinking through every design and commercial decision, we’re able to naturally eliminate harmful outputs. You won’t find any
single-use plastics in our products, but that’s not because we’ve set ourselves a target of eliminating plastic: it’s simply because plastic is incompatible with our process.
Responsible Design
Commune is founded on the idea that people are more powerful together, and that many small actions can add up to create meaningful change. We therefore don’t have any grand gestures when it comes to sustainability, but instead make countless small gestures in every part of the brand and business. We believe this adds up into a truly responsible brand, built from the inside out.
